Democratization Of Influence

Turks have come a long way in the past 10 years, built one of the most appreciated Airline, have adopted Internet, social media and other technologies to their economic benefit and to be connected with the world. I’ve met Turkish business people, may it be a small shop or a tech company in many countries and all have one in common: They work as hard and as professional like most of their European and North American counterparts. Yes, Turkey could be a great member of the growing European Union, once their leadership becomes as democratic as their population and the human rights get respected.

Unfortunately the political leadership in Turkey seemed to have not understood that their population has long outgrown them. It’s an interesting spin on democracy, where democracy is practiced by it’s society – but not it’s leadership. The leadership in fact seems to be the biggest roadblock for this thriving country.

My biggest hope is that the Turkish Leadership is voluntarily stepping back – and not been overthrown and eventually killed, like most such leaders in recent centuries.
